The Spread -
for Norwegian
Cancer Society

Science Centre for Norwegian Cancer Society located in the centre of Oslo. A branded environment next to their main office.

Cancer as a topic is often avoided. The centre aims to challenge this perception by taking a scientific approach to cancer and research.

"The Spread" is the theme and concept of the exhibit. Initially it evokes negative connotations. The rapid advancement of technology helps to spread data and information - and for Artificial Intelligence to connect the dots. "The spread of knowledge stops the spread of cancer".

The Concept

'The Spread' - a connotative meaning that has negative associations when used with the word 'cancer' - but positive when the 'spread' of knowledge. Cancer has the ability to remain camouflaged - even in social settings we only talk about the 'C' word. We wanted to expose the taboo when talking about cancer. The exhibiton has a scientific and theoretic approach to cancer and treatment.

AI and super computers are more and more supplementing cancer research. The world becomes smaller and the cure for cancer can come from unexpected sources; eg. from the gaming industry or marine biology.

We wanted to emphasise the duality between human cells and data nodes - the spread of knowledge through streams of cells/data - and the connection between them.

What is cancer?
— 06

Cancer are mutated cells. The installation represents mutation - and is juxtaposed both visually and contextually in the environment. Cancer cells are normally camouflaged and hard to discover. Within the concept of the exhibition, the installation stands out.
